Nicky Ottav   When I was coming into my own, fashion was my tool. I am a lucky one - I never had to come out to my family. My identity and my ideology was so clear from the choices I made fashion-wise that it wasn’t necessary to declare my identity; it was quite simply known. I know that I’m lucky in that sense, and I would love for all queer people to not have to “come out” because it shouldn’t be taboo to be queer. But by the same token, I guess I did ‘come out’ tzhrough fashion. My clothing choices were so gay from day 1 and I think that was my way of ‘coming out’. Fashion can say the things you can’t say. Sometimes it says more than you ever could.

Marisa Truitt Fashion has given me confidence in more ways than one. Being confident in my style has made me confident in making decisions, in standing alone, in my vision, etc. I’m not a shy person, but I wouldn’t consider myself outspoken either. My style invites people to approach me and spark up conversation, and that’s honestly how I’ve met a lot of my friends since moving to NY. It’s easy for me to experiment with my style because my interest in fashion comes from an organic place. I think that genuine energy can be felt, which is why my style resonates with people and can speak for me in a sense. As my taste and style continue to evolve, I try not to be too influenced by others because that’s how your personal style can become diluted. In a time where owning branded merch and monogrammed luxury goods is perceived as the measure of style, just remember, it’s in you not on you.

Talia Bella   Fashion has been the armor that has protected me psychically and mentally. It is the shield of protection and armor I have used for years. The art of style in itself has been my sanity and peace. The times where I am the most liberated in the world is when I am surrounded by fashion. My imagination has been molded by shapes, colors, and textures of pieces. More importantly, the stories behind designers hustles have kept me driven to be my very best self in the fashion business. I can't go a day without wardrobe! Fashion is truly apart of me, intentionally, and unintentionally.

Ohwawa Fashion has saved my life in countless ways I couldn’t even imagine. What’s funny about it all is I was never the one to care about the fashion industry or what was “in” at the time. I was a serious tomboy just trying to figure it out. When I started modeling 5 years ago I became intrigued on expressing myself through what I wore and through my photo shoots. I feel like fashion gives me an open outlet to express myself without words. I like to be the center of attention anywhere I go. I want people to turn their heads and look at my statement piece. I’ve met so many amazing people by daring to be different. All walks of life can be introduced to you when you’re a vibrant being in fashion. Because of fashion I’m where I’m at today. A model but more importantly a public figure that inspires others.

Karissa Mitchell   As a 24-year-old living in a time where you can make a living from literally any and everything, I used to be the jack of many trades. However, claiming to be “passionate” about many things didn’t last too long when I realized money wasn’t what I was chasing. After a lot of soul searching and testing the waters of various career fields, fashion was my only constant interest. When I attempted film, photography, marketing and publishing – I was always underwhelmed. Fashion is the only field that keeps my attention with constant challenges, motivation to elevate my lifestyle, and exposure to environments and people that surpass my wildest of dreams.     I believe fashion is ridiculed and dismissed as a “real job” by those who would never survive in the industry. If we’re being completely honest, Devil Wears Prada is what you’re walking into. If you love it, it’s nothing you can’t handle. Get with it or get lost because this industry will chew you up and spit you out, and that’s the best part of it all – being a part of the 1% who gets it , from all angles - the office, to the runway, to the streets. Fashion saved my life by molding me into an exceptionally self-sufficient, detail-oriented, polished professional woman of standards and sass coming to a masthead near you ;)

Noe Jose In todays age where I feel it is difficult to express my inner world vocally, fashion has definitely helped me express how complex I am to the outer world. I just want my style to speak for me, to show how far I’ve come,  how intelligent I am and how much of an open mind I have acquired throughout my years. Growing up with limited resources and influenced by friends and family I felt trapped in a box, sorry to say, lol. However, the more experienced I have become, the more I know that what truly matters is how happy you are in the inside and I radiate that with my style, hope you can tell. Confidence is key and I mix that up with my clothing, my hair styles (which I change often), my jewelry, hygiene and anything else I can do to show how intricate I am without even saying a word. Fashion has opened up circles of friends, made people believe in me, and has made people appreciate my skin color. Fashion has no color and I feel it has helped bridge racial gaps homophobia and violence and beyond.I have felt this more and more as my platform LA VITA GOLD has garnered millennials from all walks of life. Even meeting Ziggy has been an inspiration to me and others in my network. Its not about name brands is about how you coordinate what you have to show your true self. Now a days people are starting to react to the real, the real you and fashion has been one of the mediums that has got me in tuned with my true self.   Mr. Noé Jose CEO of LaVitaGold

Justin P. Etienne    I was always into sports as a child, but another side of me always gravitated to the arts. I spent a lot of time trying to come up with new ideas to manipulate anything as a kid. When I was in elementary school, my art teacher always wondered why I never finished my art projects. It wasn’t because I had problems, it was because I always found a way to add something to the assignment. I was never satisfied with my art projects; so I’d hide them in my bag and tell my teacher that  I lost is them. I wanted to take the project home and do whatever I wanted.I  never wanted To be average when it came to my art. Transitioning to highschool my Highschool Fashion Teacher always yelled at me for taking too long on my Design Projects. One day she yelled at me in front of the whole class and told me how I can go so far in the world but I hold myself back. She also mentioned that I won’t last in the real world if I continued to have a nonchalant and lazy  attitude towards my work. Later on,  she told me that I was one of the most talented students she’s ever had and that I’d be wasting my talent if I don’t apply to FIT. That was the first time I felt like someone saw the light in me while I was in highschool.   Eventually I started my life in the fashion industry at 17, and I have accomplished things I would have never imagined. And it was all thanks to fighting through the trials and tribulations. The best part about it is that I can pass my emotions and energy onto other artists in the world as well. Myles Loftin I think that for me, fashion has definitely changed as my confidence changed, and it's been a great outlet of expression for me outside of photography. I first started caring more about how I dressed around 9th grade, that was when I first started using tumblr and really seeing the cool ways of how other people dressed. I was definitely inspired by that whole wave of people wearing vintage/thrifted clothes and obey sweaters, snapbacks, American Apparel etc. At school I wore a uniform but sort of tried to incorporate elements of my personal style by wearing fitted khaki's, and cardigans or pullovers over top of my black polo. From around 11th grade to now the vibe of my style hasn't changed drastically but since then (especially since moving New York) I've definitely been more opening to experiment with the way that I dress. For example, yesterday I stepped out the house in a orange sweatsuit from American Apparel with my bright orange hair and green adidas.A few years ago I probably would have been to scared to go out the house looking like that. I used to be scared to shop in the women's section at stores, but now I've realized that there are often times a lot cooler clothes in the women's section. Gender is a construct anyway so I've embraced that a lot more. My style evolution represents my towards becoming a person who now cares a lot less what people think of me.

Roxy   Growing up I never knew it was possible to get paid for doing something you loved . I always watched my parents work 24/7 and come home angry because they hated their jobs. Fashion saved my life because I figured out how to turn what I loved into income . I became a fashion stylist and started Overdose Eyewear ,a chic yet edgy sunglasses shop ( www.overdoseeyewear.com ). My goal is to inspire fashion lovers to chase after their dreams , hopefully they too will become fearless and notice their strengths so they can talk about how fashion has saved their lives !

Jarline   Fashion is more then a piece of clothing. It’s expression. It’s a creative outlet, as well as a coping mechanism. May seem crazy but so many people, like myself, Get genuinely excited when it comes to shopping for new clothes or to planning an outfit. It’s an uplifting feeling. When I was growing up I used fashion as a way to make myself feel and look glamorous even though I was poor. Stitching things up and making it my own was a distraction to the fact my outfit isn’t expensive or designer. Even to this day I’m mostly at the thrift store then I am actually shopping for brands. Whatever I find I end up making it my own, adjusting it or cutting it up or putting art on it. Also, Music and fashion go hand in hand and whatever musical phase I’m going through, it’s evident in what I’m wearing. I have different styles because I have different layers to my character. It’s an expression....

Mayce Vassago     Fashion to me means expression, the ability to be yourself or to be whatever you wanted to be that day. Fashion is an art, art is expression. We all need fashion, it allows us the opportunity to express ourselves in a way that isn't expressible in any other way. Fashion is an art form, its a pivotal part of every culture on this planet. Fashion is for everyone. Fashions is fun, fashion is expression!

How Fashion Saved My Life....... For me, fashion saved me in a tremendous way. I didn’t really enjoy school as much as others, so fashion was the outlet that helped me communicate from a creative standpoint. It was a way for me to express myself in and outside of school. Honestly if it wasn’t for fashion i wouldn’t be here today. I know that there are many out there like me, who connect more with fashion than other aspects of life. Saying that it saved my life is a little broad, i would say that it fueled the path of life for me. - Liv

How Fashion Saved My Life.... Fashion has always been a major part of who I am, and to be able to express yourself limitlessly through all the many styles and garments in the world has to be the best part about it. Especially in the music industry where fashion is such an important aspect, it’s what makes you an individual and how you identify as yourself and no one else. Every morning I get to decide how bold or minimalistic I want to be, or how risqué or conservative I want to be. There’s endless ways to styling and fashion has helped shape me into who I am today because of that, because you have the room to explore and experiment.. And who’s to say it isn’t fashionable as long as you like it and are confident wearing it. -Andrea

How Fashion Saved My Life......Since a kid I didn’t talk a lot and fashion was a way I expressed myself. I first started getting into fashion because of basketball. I needed a pair of basketball shoes for the team.  I got them and pulled up to practice and everyone kept complimenting me. I started to pay more attention to my sneakers and match them with my outfits using color coordination and layering. In high school, I was exposed to a whole new level of fashion being that my school is in soho. I learned from the streets and because I couldn’t afford designer I went to thrift stores, changing the way I shop forever. Then I started a YouTube channel, involving fashion. I started meeting new people with similar interest. I got an internship at a clothing brand in the office. It opened my mind to the industry and finalized my goal to go to FIT for college. Fashion has changed my life! I have met some of my best friends through it and brought me to new creative boundaries and self expression.  - TJ

How Fashion Saved My Life..... Fashion is truly endless. Fashion allowed me to escape my reality and recreate myself. I remember when I first realized that clothes could alter my feelings, my mood, my aura. I went through my phases of trying to fit in with everyone in school growing up, but eventually I got fed up with trying to please everyone. I began to wear what I wanted, and in that I began to find my true self. I pull pieces from thrifted finds to high end, but I truly believe it’s about what your comfortable in, and ensuring your confidence in the process. Love what you’re in. Allow your clothes to speak for you, allow those pieces to tell a story. - Deon

How Fashion Saved My Life...... Growing up, I was always creative - every week I had a “passion” for something different. Whether It was pottery, knitting, making shoes out of paper and blocks, or building outdoor forts out of cardboard, I’ve always had a keen eye for creativity. This eye developed more and more as I grew older, and I began to display more of an interested in the art of fashion. Having a creative mind and a very outgoing personality has significantly helped me create lots of life long relationships with very like minded people, and has also paved the way for many amazing opportunities that have helped generate income, and a deeper understanding of the industry in itself. Who knows what my life would be like without fashion? Shoot, I don’t - but I can bet it wouldn’t be half as fabulous, and I wouldn’t be on Polyvore putting together NYFW looks right now! - Michael

Rahquise Bowen   How Fashion Saved My Life.......... Fashion gave me the opportunity to express myself freely. My outfits are usually based off of my mood. Choosing my outfit is the highlight of my day.  I love to dibble and dabble in different styles/pieces. From street wear, to high fashion. Never limit yourself to one particular style, explore fashion and try new things. Fashion is all about having fun and living through your clothing. Serve that look with confidence and heads will turn! If you’re not happy and confident in your fit, it’s not it.

Fjolla Arifi How Fashion Saved My Life Ever since I was little, I was never able to fully express myself because of my social anxiety. It started in elementary school where there wasn’t a day in class that I could raise my hand because of my fear of attracting attention. Because of it, I socially isolated myself for years. At the time, the only way that I could express myself was through music, until I applied for internships at small fashion companies where I would cut fabrics. I was literally the intern buying coffee for designers and running to MOOD for fabrics. Just being surrounded by so many creative people inspired me to start designing clothes in high school and establishing my own style. It took me by surprise when people actually wanted to buy my clothes and when my page started to grow. It changed my life completely, constantly inspiring me and diminishing my insecurities. Fashion taught me self-love and the need to build a platform to help other young girls. It allowed me to speak through my clothes without actually having to speak.

Quay Ills Fashion saves lives... Fashion is broad, style is individual. It took me up until my second year of college here in New York to really start evolve into my individual style And with out the influence of Fashion my style would not exist. The world is a big place and with the platform the fashion industry has provided, I am able to get a glimpse of parts of the world I have never seen and that has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and integrate certain looks, patterns and colors into my everyday life. Fashion has saved my life because it gave me the confidence to look whatever way that makes me feel comfortable on any given day by the threads I chose to jump into. One day I can go for downtown chic, the next I’ll adopt a trend into my look then the following day I might come out cozy. I’m excited for 2018 because as I  get older I see more drastic changes in my look, I’m definitely into a different style now and figuring out how to incorporate my vision with my budget this upcoming year. Fashion gave me control of my style.

Darius Moreno   How fashion saved my life I think fashion always balanced my life out  because of my family and environment. I was always inspired by what people wore around me, plus my mom gave me the freedom to wear what I pleased growing up. My style was a mixture of dressing to fit in my environment versus how I wanted to see myself. Once I went to college, fashion became more intense for me. I felt the need to take it more seriously and start wearing more clothes that described my personality and spoke for me. Fast forward to my second year of college, I came out. I started going out a lot more. I also started experimenting with my look so that it felt personal and more connected to the art I was creating. The more I went out, the more I saw how much my clothes affected the way people treated me at clubs and in life in general. I realized how important personal style is to me and how good it makes me feel to know I'm dressing for myself.

Tashiann   Fashion helped me become the Tashiann that I now know and love. As a young girl and teenager I was highly insecure in the way I dressed and carried myself reflected my insecurities. When I got to high school I began to experiment with style and clothing. I started figuring out my personal style and became more comfortable with myself and my uniqueness. Fashion helped my younger self learn to love myself and helped me provide a platform to help other young girls learn to love themselves through fashion. Fashion has now turned into my career; creating accessories and clothing for @shopgirlstrike

Cleopatra Lee   How fashion saved my life......I've always taken pride in having my own sense of style, it was so critical to me. My Fashion saved me from being like everybody else who was around me. I knew that I was meant to stand out and I had something more to bring to the table. It gave me a way to reflect the differences between me and the others in my school and my community. I'm able to show people there's more than one version of me, I am indeed versatile. What makes fashion more intertwined with my life is that it keeps me looking good in my everyday lifestyle. As a fitness trainer and enthusiast, I am constantly in work out garments but that doesn't mean I can't make a fashion statement either.....

How fashion saved my life? I've always been into fashion regardless of how my style has evolved. Growing up in NYC you often fall in love with high end designers and their brands. Fashion kept me out of the streets when I was younger. I wasn't into the gang banging and mischief, I had to worry about what I'd be wearing to school the next day or thinking about how my next designer purchase could top the last one. I wasn't so invested into my fashion my last couple years of high school since my mom moved me to upstate to complete my last two and a half years. I got into a relationship with someone that grew up in the same neighborhood I grew up in and he was into fashion. That intrigued me because very few people from where we were from were able to develop a sense of style. Fast forward to 4 years later after being cheated on several times along with mental and physical abuse, being told I was a loser after giving someone all I had emotionally and financially. I was left in a deep dark hole all alone after cutting off everyone for this person. I started going out to fashion industry events, meeting new people, feeling better about myself. Wow everyone actually doesn't hate me like this person made me believe. I wanted to kill myself. Fashion saved my life. I'm doing what I love now! I'm getting campaigns, roles in films, styling as always. 5 years from now I see myself doing what I do now but way more established. Maybe I'll even own a couple things, that'd be amazing!

Well fashion saved/changed my life in plenty of ways. It actually surprises me sometimes thinking I have to find an outfit to go out to certain places. I never thought it would come down to that but I am thankful to have this mind set now. As much as I show that I’m not really into the whole scene hahaha but anyways hanging with my dude Ziggy recently actually made me realize the extent I would go for fashion. He asked me a question “would you wear heels?” and never in a million years I would ever think about wearing heels but to be honest, I would most definitely wear heels if       it was for a print or digital gig, why not. That really made me realize how much fashion changed the perspective I thought I had in life or even the image I would set out if I did things like that.

I have no end goal for fashion, Fashion is only for the moment kind of thing, I don't see myself riding this wave for long but I am happy where I am at now....
